Wise Ways to Beat the Blues

Ever just have one of those days? The ones where you have stuff weighing you down, the “big blahs,” and you can’t get your giddy-up? Try some of my favorite mind tricks for when you are just down in the dumps.

My list for when I am low:

  • Get out of bed. I’m not kidding.
  • Take a bath or shower. Even a birdbath works. Splash away.
  • Dress like you care.
  • Spray your favorite sunblock smelling product on you. Classic Coppertone does it for me. You immediately get the vacation vibe.
  • Plan a trip or staycation even if you can’t afford to go right away. Sign up to Travelzoo and Groupon in your zip code for a more affordable assortment of deals.
  • Go to the dentist. Just kidding. I am just making sure you are paying attention.
  • Stretch your body and mind. Take deep breaths for a full minute or more if necessary.
  • Do 10 minutes (more if possible…baby steps) of something you love to do. Preferably something active while listening to music that helps put a pep in your step. Go outside on a sunny day and add some Vitamin D to the equation. Our bodies need Vitamin D. You should already have the great smelling sunscreen on as suggested above.
  • Call a good friend and tell them how much they mean to you.
  • Pray to your higher power.

At a certain age (and we are not naming numbers here), I’ve learned that self-care is super important. That I crave it. And it works! Don’t let a bad day get you down. It’s ok to say, “Hey, I’m having a hard day! I need a time out!”

Give yourself a break. There’s always another chance tomorrow, or the next day, or the day after that.

Love and Live Who You Are,

Courtney
